How does alarm monitoring work?

Once you activate your ADi security system, alarm monitoring is a 24-hour a day protection service and includes all 7 days. When one of your alarm's sensors is triggered by an event such as a break-in or environmental hazard, your alarm signals the powered Guardian response center professionals. A highly trained operator will activate emergency procedures, which include contacting you and dispatching emergency services. That's life more secure!

What if I have an existing system in my house?

ADI may be able to reprogram your existing system, depending on the panel type. However, your existing system may need to be replaced completely once our certified agents or technicians inspect the panel.

No. ADi can install both a security systems to meet your needs. If it is pre-wired, we may be able to use the existing wiring for your service. Wireless is always an option.

Do I need a phone line?

No, in most cases you can still have service without needing a traditional phone line. ADi uses the latest technology and devices, including wireless alarm panels, to meet your needs.

What Should I Expect?

How can I prevent false alarms?

Prevent false alarms by:

  • Being comfortable with using your system

  • Know what happens when a panic button is pushed

  • Consider who should have access to your home, make sure they know your code and how to use your system

  • Test your system monthly

  • Always keep your emergency contact list up to date

  • Be aware of triggers like securing doors and windows before arming your system or pets that belong outside

  • Replace your batteries; check your user manual for instructions

  • If you are considering a remodel, call us

  • Cover your smoke detectors during construction, building repairs, and major cleanings

  • Remember to use your remote keyfob(s) for quick disarming before opening doors

Will the police department fine me for false alarms?

Yes, they can fine you if there is a reoccurance of false alarms. A general rule of thumb is to remember the triggers off false alarms and take care of those. Police departments usually will give a warning before a fine is issued. This commonly happens after the third or forth false alarm. Check your local county for details.

Why does ADi not respond to my alarm activation?

Some systems use phone lines to communicate the alarm signals. If your phone lines are down, or you have made phone changes, a test needs to be completed to ensure your system is communicating correctly. This test can be completed by calling our Customer Care department. Also, if you disarm your system within the first 45 seconds using your passcode, the monitoring facility understands that you are not having an emergency. This is the case with both phone lines and GSM monitoring.

General FAQs

Choosing the right home security solution can be challenging. We've compiled a list of frequently asked questions regarding your home security.

Information you need to know.

How does my alarm system work?

The alarm system may be armed in the “Away” or “Stay” mode. Once the system is activated, each monitored zone has the ability to recognize a violation. Once a zone has been violated, the alarm system then alerts the highly trained monitoring operators via 4G technology or phone line. Once the signal is received, the operators notify emergency services.

Why is my system not communicating correctly?

An alarm system may lose communications for several reasons. It could be that the telephone line the system communicates through may be inoperable or equipment on the alarm system may not be functioning properly.

What happens when I press the panic or fire alarm buttons on the touchpad?

f you hold down the panic or fire alarm buttons on the touchpad for 2 to 4 seconds, an alarm is transmitted to the ADi customer monitoring center, and emergency services are dispatched immediately. An alarm received in this manner cannot be canceled.

My alarm went off accidentally, but I quickly put in the code and shut it off. I expected a call, but no one called. Why not?

The Customer Monitoring Center allows a brief period for you to turn off your system before your phone is called. This gives you enough time to cancel the signal and prevent a false alarm.

Who do I call to schedule service for my security system?

Simply call your alarm agent or our office. ADi can be reached at: 800.662.8313

If I have an emergency at home, should I call ADi first?

No. If you have an emergency, call 911 first. If you are unable to call 911, then depress the panic or fire alarm button on your touchpad or remote keyfob, and we will request emergency services.

Other FAQs

Do I need to put an alarm sensor on every exterior door and window?

It depends on what you are trying to protect.

In the AWAY mode:

Protecting your property can be accomplished with interior motion sensors. You will still need a contact on the main entry/exit doors but if someone comes through the window, a properly positioned motion detector will set off your alarm instantly. One such motion detector can protect many windows and most companies include at least one with their most basic system.

In the STAY mode:

Motion detectors must be turned off while you are home. So for personal safety, you probably want to alarm some or all of your windows or add a wireless panic button as a good solution.

What about fire safety?

This is a security issue that is too often overlooked. Most homes have smoke detectors installed, but what happens if no one is home when they go off? More importantly, what if you don't wake up because carbon monoxide puts you into a deeper sleep?

A simple but priceless solution is to have at least one monitored smoke/heat detector to supplement the others in the house. This way, the fire department will come whether you are able to call them or not.

Will I get a discount on my homeowners insurance when I purchase a security system?

Yes! Most insurance companies will discount your insurance rates by 8-20%.

What are some current trends in your industry?

Most home-owners have smart phones and if they currently don’t have one, they will soon.  Staying connected remotely, is certainly a trend.

What are the things a homeowner has to consider when putting in a system?

Several factors need to be addressed when putting in a system, simply some Q&A with the homeowner.

  • Intrusion protection (doors, windows, motion detection, glass break detection)

  • Life Safety (smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm, medical alert)

  • Environmental protection (sump pump, water level, furnace failure, generator running)

  • Lifestyle (remote services, phone applications, integration to lights, locks and thermostats)

Why not just have a dog?

Dog’s are easily defeated, such as luring them into a room and closing the door.  Giving them “treats”.  To be honest, dog’s are sometimes even killed by the perpetrator.  And a dog is often like a family member.

Does the alarm work when power is out?

Yes! All of our alarm systems are designed with a “battery backup” that will operate your alarm during a power failure.

Future Evolution

What does the future hold for security?

Continued advancements with remote services and integration.

How has home security changed in the past 10 years? Technology’s place in those changes?

Wireless technology has evolved into a better solution with long-battery life.  Remote Services is available with Apps available to be connected to the security system remotely and a “lifestyle” component has recently been introduced, with integration to lighting controls, thermostats for temperature control and the ability to lock/unlock doors which are integrated to the security system.
